brian873 Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 I am thinking of upgrading my PC and purchasing a new one. I have some questions about SATA drives and hope someone can help me out here.1 – On the MOBO (in general I know they are all different) does it have an option to boot from SATA as with my current setup it has IDE1/ CD-ROM/USB and so on. Or will it require special drivers loaded.2 - If I have a an IDE drive in the same system will it or does anyone known problems with data transfer rates. Or does it just run at the IDE drive speed. If anyone has any other useful information about SATA it would be appreciated.Hail hail
XtremeMaC Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 1. no it'll boot from which ever drive u set it to.2. afaik the sata will work at sata speed ide will work at ide speed....
rupert86 Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 SATA and PATA drives are the same internally. Its the PCB/controller/interface that's different.Drives seldom reach sustained data transfers above 75MB/s, and thus a UATA-100 drive has the same as a SATA-150. The only benefit is in the burst mode, and the easier to manage cables of course.
