BIG problem with pagefile

Recommended Posts

Well I had to be sure if it was SAV 9.0.1400 or not. So I simply uninstalled it and no more pagefile problem.

But the only thing thats is differetn is the stupid secrity center. I need to be 100% sure that isnt what is doing it. so I am going to disable the security center and then install SAV 9 and see what happens from there.

I do use the following regtweak at T12:

;Pagingfile on  D: 512 MB
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

To remove the one created by setup I use this in cleanup.cmd

attrib -h -s "%systemdrive%\pagefile.sys"
DEL /F /Q "%systemdrive%\pagefile.sys"

cleanup.cmd is hailed during RunOnceEx

REG ADD %KEY%\028 /VE /D "Removing pagefile" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\028 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\cleanup.cmd" /f

Simple and effective :)

Setting the page file is not the problem here.

I already found out what it is and have confirmed it to be a problem with SAV 9

I have posted the problem in the SAV 9 thread under application switches and so far quite a few people who have sav and WIndows XP SP2 have the same problem. Uninstall SAV and the problem is fixed.

I already know that my Connectix Virtual PC wont adjust the page file.

So out of oh lets say 20 real installs this has been a problem on EVERY single one.

Was that a typo? Do you mean Connectix does adjust the pagefile, but real systems don't? If it wasn't a typo then you should probably ignore the rest of this.

There exists a bug in a range of Intel chipsets which disallows pagefile resizing (crazy, I know, but it's true!).

If the systems are using affected chipsets, the problem can be resolved by installing the Intel Application Accelerator (from Intel's website). The IAA also resolves other issues (eg. IDE-DMA).

In my dozyness I never noticed the second page, and gave that answer before realising you'd resolved the issue. I'll keep all the info in though coz it's useful for folks to know.
