Hans Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Hi guys, I have installed SP1 and now the Taskbar has changed to that of the Win2k. Its not chnging if I chnge any of the themes. All the windows and applications get the visual Styles but the taskbar does not change. Even on applying the default Luna theme, the Taskbar does not get the Luna skin. It looks bland and plain like that in Win2k.Your help is greatly appreciated. ThanksHans
Guest Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Ok...Right Click on Desktop> Properties> Theme> The Theme you want...If that doesn't work, then screw SP1 and do a system restore...
sedative Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 i don't know what's wrong with your system Hans, but..DO NOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE TO REMOVE SP1use add/remove programs and that's only if you chose to backup your previous install when you installed SP1. trust me on this one. been there done that. it's not pretty.anyway, welcome to the board Hans
Hans Posted September 17, 2002 Author Posted September 17, 2002 Hi, I have already uninstalled SP1 . That didnt help either. Hence I reinstalled SP1. I did try Window blinds when the taskbar went pale. The window blinds works fine, but I think its too heavy for resources. Hence I un-installed it. I just feel that there is some setting that might have gone wrong or possibly some system file that's been corrupted.Anyway, Tahnks for your responses.
LS_Dragons Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 Simple item to fix. You need to update your UXTHEME hack. There is an updated version at TGT Soft that you should install AFTER installing SP1.good luckLS_Dragons
Hans Posted September 18, 2002 Author Posted September 18, 2002 LS_Dragon, I have done that. I have applied the UxTheme.dll patch. The patch is required only if you are trying to use the Themes other than the default MS themes. Even then, I tried all of it. It still does not change. I unistalled the SP1 and even now its still the same. I cannot apply any theme which could change the taskbar from getting skinned or visual styles.ThanksHans
FthrJACK Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 this sounds like another dll to do with themes is damaged or missing. Windows will try to replace your hacked uxtheme.dll if it can also...!I would try running the repair wizard with a Slipstreamed SP1 + XP cd.hope u fix it hans, sounds very wierd!welcome to the board
Hans Posted September 19, 2002 Author Posted September 19, 2002 Guys, I do have a slipstreamed CD I did try SFC /SCANNOW and it would continue untill it comes accross the SP1 files and tehn it asks me to insert the XP SP1 CD. It didnt take the files from slipstreamed CD. Hence I inserted the CD containing just the extracted SP1 files. That didnt work either. I have unistalled SP1 now. But the taskbar remains to be plain without visual styles. Now I plan to repair install XP. I have a dualboot system with win2k on C: and XP on D: . Guys I would like to take some suggestions to do a safe repair install. Any ideas or cautions are welcome before i repir install. Just hoping that the taskbar gets repaired.ThanksHans
Big Booger Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Backup anything essential.Go ahead with the backup but be warned, you can loose files, programs, or even the entire installation..Just a word of caution.Have a read below:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...;EN-US;q312368&read the bottom. it would seem that this is fixed with SP1 but who knows...Good luck.BB
