xhenn Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Hi guys,I've reformatted my HD and am trying to reload win XP, but when the computer tries to boot from the CD and goes to the hardware setup I get this error:"INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 4096.Instalation can't continue"I've done this many times before and have never gotten this error. Can someone help me out?
N1K Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Are you trying to run unattended or normal installation?
ejfadrigo Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 I encountere also that error, there are some possiblities why that error occured...Try to change your cd romTry to use another Windows XP cd
arkady187 Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 I think ej has it. The only other things are if your computer is overclocked it could have problems decoding and writing to disk, and the possibility that you have two cd-roms and the installation is trying to find the files on the wrong drive.
N1K Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 Or maybe you have a floppy disk inserted during setup...
xhenn Posted October 5, 2004 Author Posted October 5, 2004 Thanks guys I'll try all your suggestions. It very well could be a bad CD or CD-ROM because after i set the bios to boot from CD, it will ask me to "Press any key to boot from CD" then hang abit after trying to detect my hardware and thats when i get the error message above.I heard that maybe faulty RAM could also be the culprit? is this true?
baggers02 Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 I have had this before. It turned out to be a dodgy memory dimm. This error is an error that points to some other problem. Look else where , memory etc.
ejfadrigo Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Sometimes Faulty Memory can cause trouble reinstalling OS, try to clean your Memory using Pencil eraser and still the error comes, i suggest to use another windows xp cd and CD drive...INF file txtsetup.sif is in the Windows XP CD...If the pc cant read the file in the CD Driver maybe....CD Drive are not working properlyWindows XP CD are damaged...BTW sorry for my english...
xhenn Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 Turned out to be a scratched CD issue. Pretty sensitive if you ask me, I've had CDs scratched worse than that and still worked, oh well. Thanks all for your inputs and suggestions!
jeffshen Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 make copies of all your CD's as backups... it aint illegal to keep 2 copies of what you bought right?
Cartoonite Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 make copies of all your CD's as backups... it aint illegal to keep 2 copies of what you bought right? You're right, it is not illegal to make backup copies of CDs or DVDs that you own. (Although last I heard it was illegal to crack the encryption on DVDs in or to make it possible to back them up. Hmm...)However, is it really necessary to revive a topic that has been dead for almost 6 months to point this out? Your desire to help is appreciated, but please refrain from reviving threads where the issue has already been resolved unless you have something you feel may not be common knowledge to add. (Sorry, but I don't think advising people that making backups of their CDs is a good idea qualifies.)
