Duplicated Messenger

Hi,

I've added MSN Messenger to my XPCREATE (SetupDl.exe -> SVC-X2M)

& I've noticed I have both MSN Messenger & Windows Messenger after a clean installation...

Why Is that?

Thats normal as far as I see.

Try it on an already installed system which doesnt have

MSN 6.2 yet and youll see that the old version still exists.

You you could probably delete (or let delete via script)

the link of the old one afterwards, probably in a clean-up

scripts.

can this be fixed by:

    msmsgs=off

or it will remove MSN Messenger as well?

I think it removes MSN messenger as well.

When I did that it complained about missing files during install,

but that may have been due to other errors.

I'd be interested if my guesses are true.

You got it right.

That in winnt.sif will prevent Windows Messenger links being created in StartMenu, Desktop, etc. (it WILL be installed though!) That's what you have to use to disable Windows Messenger.

Having that there will not affect your MSN messenger in anyway - they are both different things! Any errors you saw when you used the above might just be due to something else, so no worries.

So, using the above code in winnt.sif will do what you want - to disable Windows Messenger, and have only MSN Messenger.

Looks like this one is cleared up. Simply a WINNT.SIF question, and not an XPCREATE concern.

I just thought XPCREATE overwrites Windows Messenger with the installation of MSN Messenger...

I solved this out with nLite, but WINNT.SIF works too...

No, XPCREATE does not replace any programs with others: it only updates existing files. MSN is not an update to WMS.
