Is there some kind of guide / list of which programs should be installed first, middle, last, etc. following a clean install on WinXP-SP2 ?

I want to know in terms of stability, and such.

I was wondering if it was maybe better to install some programs before other programs? Maybe larger programs first?

Because I am installing nearly 30 programs, and would like to know the best order to go about doing that?

Anyone have a better answer to this?

This question has been recently mentionned in a thread ... you should find it with a search.

In my order, i put first .NET framework because it's often required to install some softwares. I'd advice firewalls and antivirus at the end of the list. And the rest in the middle ;)

That's Microsoft components ... often required like Windows installer (already included in recent OS now), Direct X, Java etc. You need them to install / run some applications developed in .NET language.

so is it built in to SP2?

if not, do i need it? cuz my programs seems to install just fine without it.

(unless i have it? how do i test if i have it?)

No, .NET framework is not built-into windows XP or SP2. And if you don't know what it is, and everything seems to be running properly, you don't need it.

That's all there is to it - so you know the correct thing. Just install the right application at the right position. For example, if you use an Anti-Virus that will carry out Script-Blocking (example: NAV 2003), and you use JS/VBscript, then you should place the AV setup to happen after the time you need to run the script.
