chrisblack Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'm about to emabark on an upgrade from win98 to win 2k pro - however I'm concerned about the "incompatible hard disk controller" message I get on the system check. My machine has:Commate P3 /370-VP (ver 1.3) moboAward Bios V4.51 PGNVia 82c691 rev 86 chipsetSuper i/o Ali M5i33256 mb ram10 gb hard drivePIII 700mhz procBefore I go ahead with the upgrade - what drivers do i need to correct the incompatibe HD error??? - I've gone to Viaarena and downloaded the version 4.43 4in1 chipset driver - which should contain the correct drivers for the install???As a second thought - would I be wiser to do a clean install of Win2k to my D drive and use the inbuilt dual boot option?? Thanks in advanceChris
jaclaz Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Much better to install win2k as multiboot on D : drive. You sure about the MB?Could not find anything for the P3 /370-VP, only for the Commate P3/370A-VP,here:http://drivers.softonic.com/ie/4452/Commate_P3_370A-VPand new bios here:http://www.zdnet.de/treiber/man_prod/comma...rd-bios-wc.htmljaclaz
chrisblack Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 Thanks for that - unfortunately I don't speak Italian(?) or GermanThere was a typo - the board is p3 370A-VPWhat are the drivers on the first link?? and how do I get them???I'm also wary of flashing the bios - I had a bad experience in the past - will I get away with leaving it as it is??Also why the question on the MB - i have 2 x 128 sticks of pc100 ramChris
chrisblack Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 Another question on the install - as I'm told - It is recommended that you have the correct driver ready on a floppy disk before you continue. If Setup cannot proceed without the driver, you will need to cancel Setup. What files do I need on the floppy:1. The whole 4in1 cab file2. The extracted Cab file3. Just the folders with the win2k drivers - (IDEwin2k & Win2k)4. Just the files from the above named folders? Thanks in advanceChris
chrisblack Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 Thanks for the advice guys, however I decided what the feck, and went for a clean install on D.This all went smoothly and I've now got a dual boot system. (no need to worry about the "incompatible controller".If anyone else has the same worries as me, then I hope this gives you the confidence to install.I'll probably be posting other queries if I get them.CheersChris
