  1. I tried the file this weekend, and had the same errors as reported in the other thread http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=61407 Chris
  2. The reason I reinstalled ME is - The laptop (K62 500, 96mb ram) I reinstalled on, isn't actually mine - it was given on long term loan by a friend, who may want it back at some stage (highly unlikely though) but therefore would want it as it was (ME)... I'd been running Edubuntu on it for a while, as the laptop was being used by the kids, but because "all our friends use windows" I was pressured into putting back Windows.... I've got other pc's running 98SE / 2000 & XP.... and as the laptop originally came with ME, why not reinstall it. I've also got a system restore CD for it (which I can't get to work at all), which has a ghost image on (*.gtg - anyone familiar with this format and how to use it)..... Apparently there should be a hidden partition with part of the image on, but I can't find it, and may have wiped it accidently when installing Edubuntu... Lot of waffle there, but I think you can see why I went back to ME. Chris
  3. Is that the latest pack that was posted???? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...35entry489133 Chris
  4. Thanks I eventually found that thread and am holding my breath (is that advisable???) Chris
  5. I've just done a reinstall of Win Me... To save me downloading all the packs at home on my poxy dial-up, is there anywhere I can download all the Service Pack files to burn to CD, and take home??? I've seen mention of an unnoficial service pack... is that still available anywhere??? Thanks Chris
  6. Anywher to download the XP Msconfig from???? without having to go ta winxp machine?? Chris
  7. I've been given an old pc with win98 installed (c drive). On this machine I've also installed my old hard drive with win98SE (d drive). Can I drop the contents of the windows folder on d: (se) into the folder on c: to upgrade to 98se??? I don't want to use d: as the main drive as this is only 3GB the c: is 20gb.... Thanks Chris
  8. Thanks for the advice guys, however I decided what the feck, and went for a clean install on D. This all went smoothly and I've now got a dual boot system. (no need to worry about the "incompatible controller". If anyone else has the same worries as me, then I hope this gives you the confidence to install. I'll probably be posting other queries if I get them. Cheers Chris
  9. Another question on the install - as I'm told - What files do I need on the floppy: 1. The whole 4in1 cab file 2. The extracted Cab file 3. Just the folders with the win2k drivers - (IDEwin2k & Win2k) 4. Just the files from the above named folders? Thanks in advance Chris
  10. Thanks for that - unfortunately I don't speak Italian(?) or German There was a typo - the board is p3 370A-VP What are the drivers on the first link?? and how do I get them??? I'm also wary of flashing the bios - I had a bad experience in the past - will I get away with leaving it as it is?? Also why the question on the MB - i have 2 x 128 sticks of pc100 ram Chris
  11. I'm about to emabark on an upgrade from win98 to win 2k pro - however I'm concerned about the "incompatible hard disk controller" message I get on the system check. My machine has: Commate P3 /370-VP (ver 1.3) mobo Award Bios V4.51 PGN Via 82c691 rev 86 chipset Super i/o Ali M5i33 256 mb ram 10 gb hard drive PIII 700mhz proc Before I go ahead with the upgrade - what drivers do i need to correct the incompatibe HD error??? - I've gone to Viaarena and downloaded the version 4.43 4in1 chipset driver - which should contain the correct drivers for the install??? As a second thought - would I be wiser to do a clean install of Win2k to my D drive and use the inbuilt dual boot option?? Thanks in advance Chris
