hi. i have an athlon xp 2500@3200 (11x200) clock multiplier locked (or is it?1?0 - 2x256 samsung ddr pc333 - epox 8rda3g mb - thermaltake volcano 11 xaser ed cooling fan -

can i still overclock my cpu at higher speeds? how far can i overclock it? - i mean like the stable one...

thanks.

First, get a RAM modules which are 400 MHz FSB, and can take a bit of over-clocking in their stride.

Then, you can push up the clock-speed (by increasing FSB). Upto 200 MHz above the stamped speed is okay, beyond that it _may_ go unstable.

I think you won't get much on performace by pushing it any further than 3200+

Just more heat and bigger stress on your CPU, thus shorter lifetime.

right buletov.

And now for some specifics from my side - I've successfully over-clocked my AthlonXP 2400+ (ThoroughBred core, B0 batch) from its native frequency of 2 GHz (133 MHz *real* FSB) upto 2340 MHz (156 MHz *real* FSB). And it ran fine for 2 days (I switched back to normal speed within 2 days :P). Pushing beyond 2340 MHz resulted in unstable operation.

So yeah, try pushing your luck - (11x200=2200 MHz), maybe can go higher, but maybe not - over-clocking is not a straight-forward science. Your processor can suddenly die on you after running stably for weeks - right when you least expect it.

yes. actually, the processor runs faster, but it's effective power ceases with the heat rising. more work for error correction modules within the cpu, less performance for your applications. you get my point...
