preventing wallpaper install?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i want to prevent the stock wallpapers (except bliss), that come with XP Pro, from being installed.

i do NOT want to remove them after being installed...

is it possible to safely delete thier files from the i386 folder? which ones are the wallpapers?

thanks/shiashia for any help!

You can delete the other ones if you want, but it won't really prevent other users from installing new ones. There might be a policy entry that hides this tab or prevents users from using the display properties to change it, but some 3rd party apps also allow you to se the wallapaper (acdsee, quickview plus, etc.) and you can't do much about that. Also, changing theme will change the wallpaper, so you would have to find out a way to prevent theme changes as well.

:hello:

i have found some in i386 folder. like RADIANCE.JP_ , AZUL.JP_. so i will delete them, and hope no problemo for install.

but i haven't found all of them. i want to prevent all that is found in the "desktop" tab of "display properties". there are ones like Rhododendron, Sante Fe Stucco, Zapotec. i don't see these in i386 folder.

where can i delete these?

Actually, you might have to do more than that to get rid of them, because most likely, setup will still try to copy those files to your computer and setup would fail because it couldn't find them. (there *might* be an entry in winnt.sif for wallpapers) You can very easily mass-delete them post-install (at GUIRunOnce or such) in a batchfile.

:hello:

i decided to do it the old way and just have it deleted through a batch file (start.cmd) called by GuiRunOnce.

ECHO Please Wait...

but now in "display properties -> desktop", the only stuff that shows is bullet.gif, exclam.gif, tip, tip.gif. why is that stuff showing now?

the wallpapers i put in "XPCD\$OEM$\$$\Web\Wallpaper" did not show up in the display properties. they are in the right folder (wallpaper), but do not show up as a selection for the desktop...

what's wrong? :}

What I did for my preinstall was to put the files in the path:

$OEM$\$1\Windows\Web\Wallpaper

It should work the other way, yes. But this did it for me. The issue I'm having right now is figuring out how to set a custom background as the default during setup so I don't have to change it post-install.
