Adding Dos Environment

Recommended Posts

Ok. I have a Multi Boot DVD all up and Running.

Server 2003 Enterprise

Win XP Pro

Win XP Home

Win 2000

Win ME

Win 98 SE

My Own BartPE XPE with dial up support.

All work fine.

Id now like to add DOS to the DVD.

Not just to be able to install it, but to be able to boot into a full "DOS" environment.

6.0 , 6.1, 6.22 and 7.10

Is this at all possible ?

Ive read a few posts here, but nothing is clear.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in Advance.

well, you can boot into a full dos environment, there are a couple of ways...1 is to just run the bootdisk...honestly, its just as capable as the full environment...I never install dos anymore, I just run the bootdisk...now there is another way, i dunno what it is, but it requires some work. you make a dos dir on the cd and edit some files, but honestly I dunno more than that.

Personally, Ive always chosen bootdisks, unless youre trying to run something IN dos, and not just troubleshoot would be the only reason to go with option 2...as for running programs that come with the dos setup disks, compression utils are great.

Easier way is to use Franck Uberto's RAMDISK.

At boot you just need the basic Dos files and a config.sys/autoexec.bat that creates the RAMDISK, then you copy all Dos files to RAMDISK, not unlike a "normal" 98 boot diskette does.

Frank Uberto's is better because you do not have the limit in size of the MS RAMDISK, 32 Mb.

You can even, with some caveats, run Windows 3.11, 95, 98 or ME from RAMDISK.

Find here some useful info:
