tylerkatz
the scenario: had an old PC an AMD Athlon 1.3 GHZ Windows XP Sp1, blew up the motherboard (not important how)... got a new PC today, and installed Windows XP, blah blah blah, Sp2... Installed that Old HD into the new PC, it works great, BUT (the tricky part) i made my files private in Documents and Settings, and I really need to unlock my past 3 years of stuff. Any suggestions? I cant give up hope! The old HD and as well as the new one is NTFS. Thanks A Lot -tylerkatz
jrzycrim
How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421If you encrypted the folders/files, then it's going to be virtually impossible accessing them. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...q308993&sd=techhttp://www.compulink.co.uk/~davedorn/compu.../xpencrypt1.htm

jaclaz
Actually, it is possible to recover data even on encrypted partitions, but it will cost you:ADVANCED EFS DATA RECOVERYA program to recover (decrypt) files encrypted on NTFS (EFS) partitions created in Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Files are being decrypted even in a case when the system is not bootable and so you cannot log on, and/or some encryption keys (private or master) have been tampered. Besides, decryption is possible even when Windows is protected using SYSKEY. AEFSDR effectively (and instantly) decrypts the files protected under all versions of Windows Server 2003 (Standard and Enterprise), Windows XP (including Service Pack 1) and Windows 2000 (including Service Packs 1, 2, 3 and 4). Registered version costs $99 (personal license) or $199 (business license).http://www.elcomsoft.com/prs.html#aefsdrjaclaz
