August 22, 200421 yr SP2 installed on a clean XP Pro SP1a installation. Everything works, but the **** Windows Installer. At the end of every installation it says THE PROCESS WAS INTERRUPTED and everything that was just installed erases itself. How do I fix this darn problem!?I know that I am not the only one who has this problem (I saw others compalin on other forums), so there has to be a fix!Oh, please! I just don't know WTF is going on. I tried to enable ALL the possible services, but it still wo't work.Event Viewer saysEvent Type: InformationEvent Source: MsiInstallerEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 11708Date: 8/22/2004Time: 11:21:07 PMUser: YoYo\YoyoManAComputer: YoYoManAXDescription:Product: Rome - Total War Demo -- Installation operation failed. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Data:0000: 7b 30 39 30 30 42 34 44 {0900B4D0008: 35 2d 42 39 34 41 2d 34 5-B94A-40010: 42 30 38 2d 39 45 42 36 B08-9EB60018: 2d 30 33 43 39 44 36 31 -03C9D610020: 44 32 39 37 35 7d 2c 20 D2975},0028: 31 36 30 32 1602This happens with any Windows Installer installation, not just Rome Total Raw Demo.Oh, and full constrol is given to all the folders. No restrictions. There was this trick that I used before that let me have the files even if the process was ineterrupted...It did not enter the registry though, but the files stayed, and I could use them.BIG NEWS!!! I downloaded MasaI Editor that edits .MSI files and I got it to work. I had to remove certain sequences in the installer. I norrowed down to ONE SEQUENCE PART that causes the problem - PERFORM CLEAN UP. When that step is REMOVED - installation finishes properly and without errors!I have environmental variables DELETED for any users. All the TEMP files go into Windows/Temp. There is no USER/TEMP. Maybe thats the reason for the errors on clean up? I do not see why though...
August 23, 200421 yr If you're in a hurry to get it fixed, why not phone up Microsoft? They're giving free tech support over the phone for all issues related to sp2.
August 23, 200421 yr Author I don't think they know of this issue and quite frankly I don't think anyone really knows how to solve it.
August 23, 200421 yr maybe your windows installer service is disabled?btw, a "clean" xp isnt 1 that has sp1 integrated into it
August 23, 200421 yr Author maybe your windows installer service is disabled?btw, a "clean" xp isnt 1 that has sp1 integrated into it If the service would be DISABLED then the installation would not start in the first palce, but it does, goes to the very end and at the VERY END it says INTERRUPTED>I had this with previous BETA OF SP2. Then, I decided to have a clean installed. And I did, but the problem persists.Event Viewer saysEvent Type: InformationEvent Source: MsiInstallerEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 11708Date: 8/22/2004Time: 11:21:07 PMUser: YoYo\YoyoManAComputer: YoYoManAXDescription:Product: Rome - Total War Demo -- Installation operation failed. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Data:0000: 7b 30 39 30 30 42 34 44 {0900B4D0008: 35 2d 42 39 34 41 2d 34 5-B94A-40010: 42 30 38 2d 39 45 42 36 B08-9EB60018: 2d 30 33 43 39 44 36 31 -03C9D610020: 44 32 39 37 35 7d 2c 20 D2975}, 0028: 31 36 30 32 1602 This happens with any Windows Installer installation, not just Rome Total Raw Demo. There was this trick that I used before that let me have the files even if the process was ineterrupted...It did not enter the registry though, but the files stayed, and I could use them.

August 24, 200421 yr Author BUMP!!! I found out that I have to remove more than just cleanup sequnces in that .msi installer for it to work!WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS?
August 27, 200421 yr Author Bump. My friend in Germany has the same problem, and it totally blows that you have to get IsoBuster, extract files, edit the .MSI, and then use WinISO to recreate the .ISO so that the installer works!Could someone please look at these sequences and tell me why they would cause a problem? Look at the ones that have a grey icon (6597, 6598, 6599, 6601, 6602)http://www.bellsouthpwp.net/M/o/MonarchX/Sequences.jpgThere HAS to be a fix to this.
