i have been installing SP2 since the it came out and the strange thing is that the build number on the desktop is Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 (Service Pack 2), the thing that is throwing me off is the 2158, i thought that it was suppose to be around 2180?? Is this correct??

I attached a screen shot of the desktop build for viewing.

I'm seeing that on the RTM version that I downloaded from WindowsBeta. Installing a new system now with the release version to see, tho I doubt it will be different.

Is this the version number you see on all the other machines you have installed this SP2 on?

Are you sure that you have the right build?

Did you download it from the Microsoft website or did you get it from an unknown or untrustworthy source?

It shows the same thing on mine, as does IE when you click About. I downloaded SP2 directly from Microsoft so I definately have the final; must be an oversight on their part or that number is referring to something else. Got me...

The build number on your desktop is all right.

You have the final version. :):

Windows grabs this build number 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158

from this WinRegistry location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

but before on all the other releases of SP2 the build number has been in that spot, i did check ntoskrnl.exe properties and it does state 2180

If WINVER reports 040803-2158, then you have the final build. The 2158 is not the build number as stated previously.

040803-2158 translates into the following:

04 = 2004, 08 = August, 03 = the 3rd day, and 2158 = 9:58pm.

Thus RTM build was made on August 3, 2004 at 9:58pm.
