ghost corporate and XP

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need to install 30 pcs in XP and i want to use to ghost one station and deploy it on the others but:

-if i do that, all the pcs'll have the same XP SN and it'll a problem when they'll connect on windowsupdate ? what do u think ?

-is there an other solution ?

I want to force users to have the same display "appearance" (windows classic style), how can i do that ?

How can i change the logo the system properties/general ?

How can i can deploy printers on first time logon only ?

thanx all for your advice.

Yes this is a problem unless you are using a Volume License - speak to Microsoft about this.

You need to modify the Default user\NTUSER.DAT hive - to find out how to do this See here

How can i change the logo the system properties/general ?

have a look at the information contained in the ref.chm file - part of the deployment tools you will find in the \support\tools\deploy.cab folder of any Windows XP isntall CD.

How can i can deploy printers on first time logon only ?

Yes you can - there are a number of ways to do this depending on if the printers are connected to the local machine or to a share.

thanx all for your advice.

Your Welcome :)

hey,

In our environment, we have a Volume License edition of XP which has the same key for all workstations. There's no problems with Windows Update then. There's definately utilities out there that will change the CD after install. Do a search on google.

If you're using a ghost image and don't need to do this through an unattended install, the easiest way is probably changing the group policy settings.

Start > Run > GPEdit.MSC. It'll be in here under administrative templates somewhere.

To change the OEM logo, put a small bitmap into C:\Windows\System32 and call it OEMLOGO.BMP

And sorry I can't help on the printers question!

thanx all for u reply :)

The prob' of licence is a bit difficult, 'cause when i bought the pcs i received a licence key for each pc, another idea to deploy easyly those pcs ?

If i do a sysprep before doing the ghost: does it remove the SN too ?

another question: how can i change the boot logon pics ?

thanx !!

about logon

go to www.themexp.org or http://www.themexp.org/listings.php?type=login&view=date

download the login you want in order to test them run regedit

and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

copy the login file to %windir%\system32

then put the name of the login file in UIHost value

finaly what do you mean by deploying Printer ?

for the logo just put oemlogo.bmp and oeminfo.ini in $OEM$\$$\System32

here's how oeminfo should look:

[General]

Manufacturer=Impulse Developers

Model=XeoTsunami

[OEMSpecific]

SubModel=

SerialNo=007

OEM1=

OEM2=

[support Information]

Line1=Support Contact:

Line2=

Line3=John Kalland

Line4=aka pr0digal jenius

Line5=

Line6=pr0digaljenius@yahoo.com

Line7=AIM = pr0digaljenius

Line8=MSN = panik_button@mailcity.com

or somethign similiar :)
