gamehead200 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 While I was testing out to see if my hacked tcpip.sys file was working properly, I saw that I was getting an incredibly fast speed for SP2 on Shareaza (which prathapml suggested I download to test to see if the file was working properly). So I checked who the source was, and low and behold, it was Microsoft's download site giving me a fast connection on SHAREAZA... Hmmm... Don't YOU think its a bit odd?Check the pic out:
GreenMachine Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Microsoft has used SHAREAZA as a download mirror for years. I did forget all about it until now. I believe that it is also used as part of their server farm sometimes: the address will be www.microsoft.com/somethingoranother, but the IP will resolve to theirs.EDIT:: Disclaimer ... Well, I'm pretty sure SHAREAZA was the name of the site. Might have been something else, though ... There is a 3rd party mirror that they hire out at times.
gabriel_buc Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Have u tried to download WinXP Pro or Visual Studio .NET or any other M$ product using Shareaza ???Maybe all of this have one mirror on M$ site M$ decided to release all their products for free and we didn't find out
XtremeMaC Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 well i would think that MS is not using those as mirrors. simply someone's adding them as mirrors.also shareaza has to ability to work as a download program just like download accel flashget getright etc...so if u copy and paste the link the same exact link shown on gamehead's attachment u'll see that it'll dl it. and go to download.com copy the shortcut of a dl link and paste it onto shareaza or set it to catch url's and it'll dl.@gamehead200 which hacked tcpip.sys are u using? I've seen several on this board.
GreenMachine Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Looks like I must have got the name wrong, and misunderstood the post ... I was thinking of a site/domain name that sounded something like that, not a software program. Sorry about that. But there is a third party mirror that has been hired out many times before. How embarassing ... !
prathapml Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Hey!Now that's *REALLY* odd as you said. OK, from now on I know to look out for them, and try getting from their server.

BeenThereB4 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 @GreenMachineYou may have been thinking of Inktomi, which Microsoft has used in the past.
