It took me almost 2 weeks to download a very large item once.

When it stalls for a long time, disconnect from the network, flush all your sources, shutdown shareaza, reboot, start shareaza, connect and then let it find all it's sources by doing a find new sources on your file after you've reconnected to the maximum amount of neighbours configured. Then just let it sit overnight, if the next morning there is still no progress, then disconnect from all your neighbours, try new neighbours and do another find new sources (without erasing all your current ones). Rinse and repeat the above until you have it all. Depending on the file, the last part can sometimes take a painfully long time, however, at least with the shareaza file hashing, you're at least sure to get a non-corrupted file for all your efforts.

The official download site still talks of v2.0, and I got that months ago.

Is what you are saying, a new release since then?

I went into my installed dir of ShAza, and file-version properties say "2.0.0.0". Is the new version showing that different as you say?

sorry, i should have specified more clearly, its beta (look on the forums for links (shareaza's))

also softpedia.com has a link :)

Quote form Shareaza User Guide

eDonkey 2000 is a peer to peer network that relies on servers to connect users. It runs off multiple, independent, international servers, so it is unlikely that it will ever be shut down as the centralised, USA-located Napster servers were.

eDonkey 2000 was created by Metamachine, who also created Overnet. It is populated mainly by eMule, eDonkey/Overnet (Hybrid) and, of course, Shareaza.

ED2K It is a network of very long queues- usually over 1000x as long as Gnutella or Gnutella2 queues! It also enforces an upload/download ratio- your downloads may be throttled back if your upload is less than 10kB/s. Furthermore, to encourage sharing even more, your queue position may advance faster the more you upload.

This does make the network an excellent resource for popular, large files. However, you may have to wait a long time for a download to start. If you are unable to remain online for long periods, or your bandwidth is limited, you may not be able to advance through the queues fast enough to achieve good results.

eDonkey 2000 gets server lists from 'server.met's that are listed everywhere across the web. See Bluetack's server.met page for examples.

While there is no general website for the eDonkey network, see http://www.edonkey2000.com for more information on the program that pioneered the eDonkey network.

As far as they say Shareaza will connect at Overnet network. But I've done the following test.

I searched for the same file in both eDonkey2000 client and Shareaza.

eDoneky returned 10+ sources for that file, but Shareaza returned NONE (of course Shareaza showed that was connected at eDonkey network).

Further, I tried to copy the link to that file from eDonkey client and add to Shreaza download list. Still Shareaza says it has NO SOURCES to download from.

Conclusion is does Shareaza connects to the Overnet network or it only connects to the server-based eDonkey network (as far as I know eDonkey != Overnet regarding the network topology).

And a last notice: All sources that I want to download are from eDonkey network. I haven't seen any G1 or G2 sources for my files.
