Hi guys/dolls

hope you can help,

i have a broadband modem which will not install onto an xp home machine.

in the past i have managed to install other software.

When i run the setup.exe file for the modem software i get the following error

"install support file could not be installed, the parameter is not correct"

I have tried 2 different cd's for the modem which is correctly not connected to

the pc as the software should be installed first.

I get the error with both cd's.

I have looked up the error and found that the problem may be caused by

a corrupt registry key Link 1

That link also advises me that the problem may be with the ikernel.exe file

and to download and follow the instructions as found here

Link 2

Neither have solved my problem

please could i have some suggestions

many thanks

CB

Have you tried to see if your modem will work without the software?

I know my modem came with software and I never installed it and I have never had a problem. Chances are it is a walk through on how to set it up and maybe some drivers that Xp probably has. I say hook it up without the software and see what happens.

If it requires drivers go to the company website of the modem.

Thanks,

Its not a friver issue as we have tried 2 disks with different drivers giving the same error.

It is a modem and not a router so it will need drivers. The computer shall not recognise it otherwise.

the problem is with the operating system, possibly some corrupt registry entries

or a problem with install shield or windows installer.

Thanks for the input though
