Curv Boll
Hi guys/dollshope you can help,i have a broadband modem which will not install onto an xp home machine.in the past i have managed to install other software. When i run the setup.exe file for the modem software i get the following error"install support file could not be installed, the parameter is not correct"I have tried 2 different cd's for the modem which is correctly not connected tothe pc as the software should be installed first.I get the error with both cd's.I have looked up the error and found that the problem may be caused by a corrupt registry key Link 1That link also advises me that the problem may be with the ikernel.exe fileand to download and follow the instructions as found here Link 2Neither have solved my problemplease could i have some suggestionsmany thanksCB
dimegrind
Have you tried to see if your modem will work without the software?I know my modem came with software and I never installed it and I have never had a problem. Chances are it is a walk through on how to set it up and maybe some drivers that Xp probably has. I say hook it up without the software and see what happens. If it requires drivers go to the company website of the modem.
Curv Boll
Thanks,Its not a friver issue as we have tried 2 disks with different drivers giving the same error. It is a modem and not a router so it will need drivers. The computer shall not recognise it otherwise.the problem is with the operating system, possibly some corrupt registry entriesor a problem with install shield or windows installer. Thanks for the input thoughCB
hansen_dk
I think it could be some error with your windows installer. Try updating winxp and then install again. Hope this helps.
