Searching for Group Memberships

Hi all,

I am trying to search through W2K AD to find memebers of specific groups. However any of the search options I try returns no results.

Hope someone can help with this annoyance.

All depends on how well your OUs were setup. It can be really easy, or a pain in the arse. Guess you have the latter. Sometimes it's better to know the exact name of the group, then look at the members tab of the group instead of trying to find each user and see what group they belong too.

Just depends on your needs. Do you need find all the members of a few groups, or do you need to find all the group memberships of some users? Depending on how big the company is, you could do it in a few hours or a few months.

MS has a utility to print out all AD objects.

You can use the Csvde utility, which is included in Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server, to create a comma-separated value (CSV) file that lists all objects in a domain. For example, to list all objects in the demo.local domain, you'd run the command

csvde -d "dc=demo,dc=local" -f domain.csv

The -d parameter specifies the root of the distinguished name (DN) from which to start the output to the .csv file, and the -f parameter provides the output filename.

you can use DSQUERY / DSGET

following command will find any group that starts with ADM*

afther that it wil pipeline the found groups to DSGET to get the members

dsquery group -name adm* | dsget group -members

greetings /\/\o\/\/
