glawster Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 A quick question, I have successfully built a system using the methods described on this site. I have a set up that creates a normal user account as well as the default user.I am note sure why but the default user is called Owner, can anyone suggest how to set it up so that it is "Admin" for example?I understand how to create another admin user as described underhttp://unattended.msfn.org/xp/autologon.htmis this the only way to go?What I want to end up with is one Admin user and one normal user at the logon screen.Andy
Shark007 Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Within the file WINNT.SIFyou'll most likely find[userData] FullName="Owner"Change it to whatever you wish.Shark007
Tribble Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 good to see that topic here, so i dont need to start another one is it possible to autologin with "Administrator" Account on first boot and on all followings, with a special password and without using winnt.sif? And is it possible to skip the creation of an admin account on first boot? or is that this oobe thingie (which i already disabled now) ?thx for ur help
MCT Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 just use a .reg file if u dont wanna use winnt.sif search the reg tweaks threads for it
Tribble Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 just use a .reg file if u dont wanna use winnt.sif search the reg tweaks threads for itno, you dont understand. i want it to do during install, not when windows is already installed. that aint that prob but in general, windows creates an "Administrator" Account and when its done with install you have to make your own Account (which got admin privileges). What i want is to use the Administrator account and not to create a new one. But not when XP is already installed! It should be from the first logon. It should use the Administrator Account in general with a password of my choice.
MCT Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 u can use a reg file during install process, i do, it works
glawster Posted June 2, 2004 Author Posted June 2, 2004 Within the file WINNT.SIFyou'll most likely find[userData] FullName="Owner"Change it to whatever you wish.Shark007Getting back to the original topic... before it was hijacked :-)winnt.sif on my system is[userData] FullName="Andy Wilson" There is no Owner in the file, it comes from somewhere else. I am using a Dell install CD, could it be coming from that somewhere?Any Ideas?
diesel_98a Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 glawster is right, it is coming from somewhere else. it doesn't bother me cause i just rename it, but it doesn't rename the folders. the only way to do that, that i know of is to create a new acct and remove the owner one but that is just two much work to begin w/.
Alanoll Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 sounds to me like the people with the "Owner" accounts, are using XP Home edition.I'm not sure how to rename it, but it's in one of the system files during install. systemdll or something. Ask gosh or find his post. at one point he renamed Administrator to Admin from the beginning of install.
