XPC Test, Updated Version for Testing

GreenMachine

Recommended Posts

@johann83: First look at your logs files do not show anything. I have made a few more changes, and will be posted an updated version of XPCTEST either today or tomorrow. I did just test this latest version, and did not have the symptoms you mention. I have also switched from file size to check sum for download file integration, so in this way we can be sure we are using the exact same failsafe list. So hang tight a bit, and then please test the next release, and see if the problem is still there. I'll get back to you ...

@mmarable: Basically, when run from a "clean installation" (e.g. no XPCREATE.INI) XPCREATE will look for the XP source, and copy it into the XPCREATE directory. It will update/create XPCREATE.INI to reflect the new source location. Also, when a service pack is slipstreamed, it is slipstreamed into the source, not the working copy, and the service pack is put aside for safe keeping in the OLDFILES directory. In short, yes, the XP CD is only needed the first time.

@johann83: From the website, I quote:

System Requirements:

- Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server Operating System.

- Several Gigabyte of available hard disk space.

- NTFS file system with 8.3 File Name Creation enabled.

- A CD-R Recorder.

I know which one is missing ...

Heh. You've got to be kidding... I guess I should RTFM, huh? :) Anyhow, I re-enabled 8.3 name creation and will try again. Since my current install is hosed up, I'd rather get it straightened tonight, but I'll still try out the new version when you post it. Thanks for the help.

Matt

PS Out of curiosity, how did you know what the problem was?

Long file names in SVCPACK.INF. I always used to disable 8.3, but that with XCOPY is a very nice and easy way to rename the files for ISO compatability.

You are fine using either version at the moment: the end result has not changed.

I like this GM, I really like this. I first tried XPCreate when it still had menus and such and I've got to tell you, going to this current method has been fantastic. XPCreate is well thought out and executed very cleanly.

You've done a excellent job, GM.

All download-list languages SHOULD be finished Friday, but no definate promises. I would say Thursday, but it's going to take some time to download all the hotfixes in each language to create MD5 sums :)

The download list for Windows 2000 Pro English has been added, although I am not in a position to test it right now. Perhaps someone who actually uses Windows 2000 Pro can see if it works.

@GreenMachine

I'm currently tring TEST version of XPCREATE 30 MAY 2004.

My source Cd is 2KP = Windows 2000 Professional MUI

SP4 is in %PREPDIR%\SPACKS\W2KSP4_EN.EXE

1/ When i launch XPCREATE, XPCTHLST.TXT is downloaded from http://msfn.wiretapped.us/XPFILES/2KP/ENU/XPCTHLST.TXT <OK>

2/ the script start downloading w2ksp4_en.exe from M$ although the file already in the SPACKS folder. <not what expected>

3/ after editing XPCREATE.CMD for debugging purpose, i've noticed that the script initialize a variable called CURSPNAME get from downloaded XPCTHLST.TXT

(

@Virindi

Fail on my first attempt to download dotnetfx.exe from M$.

Will try a second attempt later... (for debugging purpose !). But the link is good. Checked with NetTransport download manager freeware

Later...

snif bouh (French onomatopoeia), script hangs up when Merging Service Pack
