MCT Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 try this, try the nLite XP reduction Tool i just started using it, and it took my xp pro cd from about 470MB to 230MBwhat it does is gives u the option 2 remove unused components xp installs with, for me, i removed Windows Media player (cuz theirs a newer version out, seems silly 2 have 2 of the same things on 1 cd)services, defrag, and a bunch of other thingsi use a different defrag utility, so it also seemed silly 2 have 2 of the same program on my pcalso, u could get a 900MB cdhope this helped
Alanoll Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 CDIMAGE just creates dynamic links if the files are identical. Not compressing. It just writes the file ONCE instead of however many times you have it.
buckeyeXP Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 i dont know if you shrinked office using my Shrink Office. It will work for 2k XP and 2K3. You could try that on top of nlite and get it to fit. The only problem is that it only works for english versions of office. hope this helps
abu ryan Posted May 27, 2004 Author Posted May 27, 2004 hi all MCTcan you give me which application did you remove frome the cd and where can i finde it in the cd during ruuning the software NLITE AlonallFOR using cdmimage will not give what we need buckeyeXPfor shrink office software will reduce the size but if you need to inastall the office complete it will ask for files which is not in so you have to back to YOUR office CD......
Alanoll Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 I know CDIMAGE won't work. I was symply telling you why. It's not a reduction or compression tool, it's more of an Optimizer.as for nLite. Load up the program, and remove what you want. There is a recommended preset that probally will remove enough.
edmoncu Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 just a followup to office2k3 shrink, it would also be possible to compress the shrinked ofc2k3 installer via 7zip or winrar to an sfx archive and have it silently decompressed before the installation starts. i've done it with ofc2k3, shrinked it with officeshrink of buckeyeXP, the installer went down to 180+mb. compressed it to sfx with winrar. it went down further to 64mb.
