Help! Locating My Documents Folder on Multiple OS

Please help! Recently there was some problem with my Window XP and I was asked to reinstall the os. Half way through it, there was a fatal error message that keeps restart the setup. Then I reinstall a newer version of Window XP and instead of upgrading on the old os, it become an additional os. This is not a problem except that all my important folders are in the My Documents folders as well on the Desktop of the old os.

Can anyone tell me from the workable os, how do I:

1) Find "My Documents" Folder in the old os from the new os

2) Find Folders that placed on the Desktop of the old os (I created folders on the desktop).

Please help as my important files are all there.

From Windows Explorer...

Locate the directory of the first XP install and look for

C:\Documents and Settings\UserAccount

If your second XP install did not hose the original install location you should be able to find your Documents and Desktop.

Where was your backup?

Hi all,

FYI, I managed to locate the folders by taking ownership of it.

Thanks for all the help!

Additionally, what is the best way to clean install/format my harddisk as I am planning to do this after this incident.

Please provide step-by-step guide if possible.

Appreciate your advice.
