I tried to create a new slipstreamed cd using xpcreate but i am recieveing an error. The error is - can't find swflash.inf. I have the most current version of swflash.cab in the svc-swf folder and I have verified that there is a swflash.inf file in the cab. Can anyone shed some light on this problem or help me to torublshoot it further. Thanks...

I've had that before......haven't read this post properly (sorry)

...but have you got the latest version of both XPCREATE (27th April) & SWFLASH (My version is 7,0,19,0)?

I believe that older/different versions of the SWFLASH.CAB may have different files inside it :S but I could be wrong.

Mine also has the .inf file inside so perhaps you better check your version of XPCREATE :)

The "Can't open input file: cdroot\i386\swflash.in_." is from an older version of XPCREATE when the swflash cab used to contain swflash.in_ instead of the uncompressed version

...er...right GM?

Good luck.

Yep all checks out - version of xpcreate is current and swflash.cab has current verison in it. I have even tried to extract the file and place it in the root of xpcreate to help things along with no luck.

is there a swflash.in_ on your original disk? if there isn't, it would explain why it can't find it.

But if that's the log that was created, and you DIDN'T extract it from LOGFILES.CAB, then you're using an old version of XPC

Alanoll - doesn't the xpcreate script look for both the uncompressed version (.inf) and the compressed version (.in_)?

Just take look at you're log post again...

you'll see this:

Expanding svc-swf\swflash.cab to .\swflash.inf.
and further down you have:
TEMP\SVC-SWF\SWFLASH.INF

TEMP\SVC-SWF\SWFLASH.OCX

2 File(s) copied

so even tho you get that message, the files themselves would appear to have been copied so that it installs so I wouldn't worry.

Have you tried testing the finished CD made from it?

If so, on your target pc (the one you have installed the finished CD on) go to a flash site, and right-click a flash object to look at your version :)

You'll be able to see if its worked that way

N.

No, it is not installing.

I do not understand why there is so much trouble with this one. I have added code to the next version to gracefully crap out if everything is not as it is expected.

The downloaded file is fine: it has not changed for months. The error message you see is that it cannot find the XP copy of SWFLASH.INF that is to be updated. This is expected to be in the I386 directory of the CD: CDROOT\I386\SWFLASH.IN_ (compressed). XPCREATE is unable to extract SWFLASH.INF that is inside this file. Why, heaven knows ... Either the file does not exist (then you are not using an Original XP CD, and that is one of the pre-requisites), it has become corrupted (doubtful ... ), or the expand utility has a bug (possible), or even anti virus software.

The only other ideas I have is to try on another PC, or just remove SWFLASH.CAB and fahget about it.

Well I am sheepishly happy to report I have found the problem. It appears that for some reason my source was not getting xcopied completly. Not sure why it is not xcoping correctly - I have tried several read and write test on my CD and they all appear normal but I was only getting thru the D's copied into the CDROOT folder. I am sure it is a source problem so I appoligies for wasting your time.

By the way... durring this exercise I broke down and actually started going thru the xpcreate.cmd to understand exactly what was going on - I have been around since the old DOS days and I have to say the CMD file is a nice one. Great job keep up the good work and hopefully you won't run into amymore 'users' like myself.
