OldSchool38 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Last year I picked up a used Dell Inspiron 3847 computer from a thrift store, tested it out with win 7 and it worked fine. This weekend while fiddling around with 2000 on another tower, I decided to dust this one off and see if I could install Windows XP home even though it's rated for Win 7 and above. After messing around in the bios (setting 'legacy boot' and sata to 'ata' settings) I was able to successfully install XP. I tried the drivers off the dell site, but only the realtek sound driver works. The processor is an i3-4130 cpu at 3.40 ghz. Would anyone know where I could get an XP compatible chipset driver and lan driver if that is possible?
Tripredacus Posted April 11 Posted April 11 You'll need to get the hardware IDs of the devices you want to find drivers for. Usually just the VEN&DEV (or VID&PID) portions would suffice.
OldSchool38 Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 Ok, got into the device manager and took screens of all the data
Tripredacus Posted April 14 Posted April 14 We may assist you in trying to find some of these but you can't expect us to do all of the work. Please type these first line of each in a post as text.
OldSchool38 Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 (edited) I wasn't trying to get you to do all of the work, I wasn't even sure how to find hardware ID's. After I looked up how to find them, I thought taking screenshots of the information would be a good way to document things for anyone who wanted to check it out and it would also be a good way to make sure I didn't misstype the data. Edit: Don't worry about it-I'll just use another os with this one, sorry for the trouble. Edited April 15 by OldSchool38
