Mihot7 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 At first it didn't boot at all. only after disabling PCi in bios. After that it booted without mice or keyboard detectedI I've fixed that with unofficial drivers for my chipset (Intel 945) It works fine, untill I want to boot it for the 2nd time, it will be stuck at a black screen with AUTOEXEC.BAT lines However it boot just fine to safe mode Here are my specs: Pentium 4 HT 2.8E (Patcher9x applied) 512 MB DDR2 RAM 500GB SATA HDD (Partitioned to only 2gb and in IDE mode) GPU: Intel 945G (Don't care if it doesn't have driver, I'll just use VBE or the unofficial driver) This pc will only be used to demonstrade retro malware so no need for 3d
MERCURY127 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) click f8 on reboot, do select step-by-step boot (include windows booting), and check, which driver cause problem. after this, try sbs boot again with manual skipping problem driver. if no success, then boot with logging to bootlog.txt, and attach here files bootlog.txt and bootlog.prv. defuser Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Patcher9x is not needed for ancient hardware. It is buggy and causes a lot of problems (and was originally developed for VMs running on the latest hardware). Your problem seems to be in ACPI.SYS, which is not supported or works crookedly on anything newer than Intel i865 chipsets. You need to go into safe mode and turn off ACPI through the registry or start the installation again, with a parameter that disables ACPI (Or turn it off in the BIOS, if there is still such an option, but this is unlikely). I don't understand exactly what you are installing? Windows 98 SE or Windows 98? If the latter, you will also need to update NDIS.VxD to version "4.10.2001 QFE", otherwise the system may not boot on a too fast processor in some cases, but you would see the NDIS error on the screen (Although this may just stop the "Patcher"). 8 hours ago, Mihot7 said: 500GB SATA HDD (Partitioned to only 2gb and in IDE mode) This is a very large size. You need to fix large disks, such as ESDI_506.PDR, or switch to AHCI mode in the BIOS, if supported (and then use AHCI.PDR from Rudolph R. Loew). Try both options - on different systems, one or the other option may be more or less problematic, or it may work very stably. Edited January 5 by defuser
defuser Posted January 5 Posted January 5 And also, even though you only have 512MB of memory, PATCHMEM can still be useful. Try.

This worked...... Thanks! just reinstalled windows with setupcor /is /p i
Mihot7 Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 The only problem I have is with installing 945G driver. I cant install chipset drivers on IDE controllers
pangoomis Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Chipset too new, latest drivers for 9x were for i865G. You don't need chipset drivers anyways. For the GPU, use VBEMP, or old PCI gpu you can find on the street.
