yshahzad Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Hi We are using Dell server virtual machines in VMware. I restarted the Dell server and then all our virtual machines started one by one, but unfortunately, our WSUS server is showing no internet. It shows in the domain but the internet is not working. I tried to reset the LAN adapter by disabling/enabling it, restarted the machine twice, and troubleshooted by clicking on “Troubleshoot problems” but with no success. After troubleshooting, it shows “The default gateway is not available”. I checked the DNS server, virtual machine entry is there. I cannot ping this server. I removed the ethernet cable from the Dell server and plugged it in again, now it shows the internet, but when I open any website, it does not open. After some time again it shows NO INTERNET. I can access shared folders from here. I cannot take remote access to this VM from other machines. I can ping other machines from this server machine. I can take remote access to other machines from this machine using both the machine name and IP. From this VM, I can ping other machines but when I try to ping the default gateway, it shows Request timed out Destination host unreachable Request timed out Destination host unreachable Any solution plz.
Tripredacus Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 There is too much information posted. Is it a VM (client) that gets this error or the hypervisor (host) that does? It doesn't particularly matter which is getting the error with the exception that you ignore all of the others. First use ipconfig -all in the CMD to determine what the gateway is that is on the primary Ethx. Is a gateway present? Is the gateway in the same subnet as the IP address and/or DHCP server address? Then determine whether this gateway is received from the DHCP server or if it is statically assigned. Then see if the IP is actually valid, aka if another computer can ping it. If a single VM has this issue where another does not, compare the settings between the two. There are other options further down the line once the gateway is deemed valid and is identified.
yshahzad Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 the result of Ipconfig /all is the same for all other VMs. Also, the result shows the default gateway. This server when pings the default gateway, it says Destination Host Unreachable The server cannot ping other devices except the VMS on this pysical machine. The gateway is on the same subnet and IP/subnet/dns all are assigned statically. Other devices cannot ping this server.
