Aleksssssooo Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Hello! I'm trying to install Windows XP SP3 x86 with patches and a huge driver pack onto my semi-modern PC. The issue is that when I attempt to boot off the installer, when it gets to the "Setup is starting Windows" section, the DVD drive shuts down and a black screen is displayed. I think this has to do something with the USB 3.0 drivers that are loaded, so I would appreciate any help. Here are my PCs basic specs: Intel i5 7400 MSI B908 Motherboard (CSM Enabled) SATA 1TB SSD USB DVD Drive Just for clarification, the pack has ACPI support, USB 3.0, SATA Driver for my PC and a bunch of other basic modern drivers.
Damnation Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 @Dietmar I recall you saying you had encountered this black screen issue before? did you manage to fix it?
Dietmar Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 @Damnation Yes, it is a problem, how the harddisk is formatted. Use RMPrepUSB for this with settings ntldr, ntfs, force LBA Dietmar 2
Aleksssssooo Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 @Dietmar Thank you for your sugestion! I will definetely try it out, however what I meant by my issue is that I boot off of a DVD install media, it loads drivers and all of that, then it gets to a phase "Setup is starting Windows" where the DVD drive stops spinning. Anyways, Thank You
Aleksssssooo Posted April 13, 2024 Author Posted April 13, 2024 @Dietmar What do I do after using RMPrepUSB? I copied the files from the XP image but it doesn't boot (NTDLR is missing, press CTRL ALT DEL to reboot)
