I have an old Windows98 notebook which supports WIFI through a PCMCIA Card.

"SMC Networks" "EZ ConnectG" "802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter": Model No: SMCWCB-G US.

The router from Verizon FIOS has to supported WPA. + WPA2 and maybe WPA3.

I would attach a second older router behind the current one for use only with the laptop instead of looking for complete replacement.
