Windows 7 on a Modern Computer

Featured Replies

Does anybody know how to get Windows 7 on modern hardware?

CPU: Intel Core i3-10100f

RAM: 8gb ddr4

SSD: 256 SATA3 SSD, and a 1TB HDD.

GPU: GTX 1050 Ti

Motherboard: MSI H510M-A Pro

I found a driver for the graphics card.

I did get it installed, but it would just hang after getting to the "starting windows" screen. It didn't crash, because the animation was still playing.

The hard drive light was off.

CSM is disabled. I don't want to enable CSM.

Alright, so I went into Safe Mode, because I knew it would show me what files are being loaded. It seems to get stuck on disk.sys.

In my experience, I have never been able to resolve a situation where the OS gets stuck at the boot animation, going back to Vista. The logs you posted (and the logs in general) are not useful in this regard.

What is needed is to set the BCD option to enable debug and another machine with windbg installed (as well as the knowledge to use it in this context) to fully determine where the issue is, presuming the debugger catches it. You can find info on this by searching these words in google.

windbg boot debug

the Intel chipset will be one of your biggest hurdles.  They started limiting compatibility early on, and making headaches for installs.  AMD Ryzen has issues too, but from what I've read on here and Toms hardware, skylake and later intel CPU's are a real pain to get running on 7

Skylake is relatively easy. I mean the Skylake iGPU even has an official win7 driver that works without modding.

I've been running a Skylake CPU with a Q170 motherboard.  It took me a while to figure it out.  One problem is that the Win 7 x64 installer BSODs with more than 4 Gb memory.  My 65w Skylake system tests out about the same as my 65w Ivy Bridge system did.  No significant increase in performance.

Sorry if i am interrupting a conversation here but i am currently running windows 7 professional 64 bit on my pc with these specs

motherboard: gigabyte b660m ds3h ddr4 edition

cpu: intel core i9 12900k
gpu: nvidia rtx 3090

ram: 64gb ddr4

i used this tutorial to make the iso and then once i had got it all flashed on to the usb it installed with no issues just like it would on older hardware.unknown.thumb.png.f4b008ae8c67438857e9fc6b3bea3772.png
