justacruzr2
Has anyone ever figured out a way to move a hard drive from its current position to a new position within the same system without Windows throwing fits? I want to move the drive from connected to a raid controller (SCSI) to one of the IDE cables but it just keeps restarting. Thanks.
RainyShadow
Search for BSOD 7B You may first try booting with the automatic restart disabled (from the F8 menu) to confirm that this is the error you get. You need to boot in safe mode after switching the cable, and then it will work normally.
justacruzr2
@Rainy Shadow I'll try that but I think it will probably either restart anyway or hang. @ExtremeGrief I already tried that and it didn't work. What if I go into Device Manager and uninstall the drive before shutdown and then reboot with the drive in it's new position? Would XP discover it and install it again under HKLM_SYSTEM_CURRENTCONTROLSET_ENUM_IDE?
