freakedenough Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Hi guys, does anybody know how to decrypt old Compaq SmartStart installation files? Compaq used to encrypt several important files and implemented custom installers which asked for a Program License Diskette and an "Activation Key" on their COA which was bound to the SERIAL.TXT and corresponding LOK/DAT file on this Diskette, e.g. their OEM NT 3.1 disk. These disks also included drivers and OEM software which was and is relevant if you have such an old PC/Server. Long story short, the COA is long gone, I have the disk but no key. Is there another way to decrypt the files?
Tripredacus Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Despite the nobility of the request, it falls against the forum rules so we cannot actually help with this specific request. However, one thing I can point to is this: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp0501-1000/0501.txt Quote SP0895.ZIP ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp0501-1000/sp0895.zip 37K 29 August 94 TITLE: This SoftPaq will fix the volume label on the SmartStart license diskette to enable you to run NON-SmartStart installs of NT 3.1 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp0501-1000/
