I need some help with an internet problem. A few days ago my computer found a netsky worm located in windows/winlogon.exe. I deleted this file and now I can not get on the internet. I have cable internet so I called the company and one person said that the problem looked as if my ethernet card had a signal spike. Can any one explain to me what a signal spike is or what in the world I did?

Also, another person said that there is a problem with my ethernet card but could not explain to me what the problem was. I looked at the ethernet card in the systems folder and I do not show any problems with the card. Could someone tell me what has happened to my connection. Thank you.

I have not heard of NetSky's causing signal spikes, but a signal spike is exactly what it sounds like a shot of high Voltage high Current, "power", sent into your lan connection, if you did get a signal spike you would have more than likely lost your cable modem also. I would run SFC as mentioned above, uninstall the card throw it in a different machine, if possible, completely unistall it from your current hardware profile then re-insert the card and reinstall the drivers.

well if u deleted the worm manually from winlogon.exe

btw winlogon.exe is a windows file, it should be under here C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe

if u find it else where its junk but if u deleted the one thats in there (which i doubt u can erase, it won't allow u and even if u delete it u will get errors..)

so get a anti-virus program & spyware program, update their definitions and scan. also immunize your system so that u don't get junk stuff again..
