I have put firewall restrictions on aerohost.exe, but it still downloads symbols. For some reason the symbols are messing with the glass effects.

I guess you don't have the glass opacity setting set the way you like it. Aero Glass can't really function correctly without having accurate information from symbol files (exception being the Windows versions from the time of Aero Glass release).

If you insist on blocking symbol file downloads (which is a bad idea), try blocking dwm.exe instead of aerohost.exe.
