BigDaddy
The second method doesn't work. I believe it's only ment for NTFS partitition and not FAT32!!! MerlinTheWizard
Indeed, it only works with NTFS.By the way, there is no reason whatsoever to use FAT32 on Win NT/2000/XP. Enough said. ;-)
BlitzKrieg
If you would of read the first few sentances of my post I explained how to remove the file attributes and delete the file. Did you try it?That shortcut is for 3½ Floppy that is present in the SendTo menu upon a right click...open that folder in a command window (start -> run -> cmd.exe) and just do type the following: "attrib *.* -s -r" without the quotes followed by: "del 3*.lnk".You use an asterisk and not a question mark. Enough said. ;-)When I first repartioned the disk I was wondering should I use FAT32 or NTFS(which is superior) but then I got with FA32 cos of its backward compatibilty and the HDD is only 40GB. On my other machine which has 120GB HDD I use NTFS!!! And I love it, no more SCANDISK!!!!
XtremeMaC
hi there did u scan disk? cause mostly delete errors are caused by fat table..try scandisk..i had a folder staying around like that let me tell u its story i use flashget and I had set the default download dir as c:\downloads\flashget \newsee the space in between flashget and \?normally u cannot create a folder that has blank space at the end, well old flashget managed that.anyways i couldn't erase it i was going mad. then i scandisked (check disk whatever it is) and the problem was fixed....and is nod stupid? of course its gonna get access errors with hiberfil and pagefile. anyways if u still experience this problem try www.sysinternals.com dl the process explorer and find the handle and close itthough i think that won't work in your case but give it a try? 100kb file..edit: okay stupid me u've already tried check disk but if u tried it through windows it won't fix errors bc of file violation so typechkntfs /c driveletter also try diskeeper boot time defrag to defrag themalso try thisfollow this guide to disable the send to menuhttp://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1100/u'll simply delete a string value and send to menu will be disabled.then try to delete the files in there...good luck Edited April 16, 2004 by XtremeMaC

XtremeMaC
ok now changing the attrib won't work bc u cannot change the attrib bc its in use.so try some other methods...its not read-only nor its a system file.. its just a file that's been registered wrong to the fat table. if u want to f up your hdd go grab a fat table editor and try to solve it like that if nothing works out backup format i guess u upgraded from another os right? it might have done something there. maybe u converted from fat32 to ntfs? i dunno... i thing i know is that its not a trojan or a virusthough be advised after having my problem 1 day i opened up the computercheck disk started at start up and started f'ing my whole folder contents.. i had billions of folders named something+bunch of numbers..i suggest backup format method
BigDaddy
THe OS was freshly installed. The disk has always been FAT32. Perhaps if I were to boot in dos and use Norton Commander(the best file editor in the good old days, IMHO) I would be able to delete those pesky files. But there's a problem, cos I can't afford to restart the SERVER for atleast another 3days.
BigDaddy
This morning I boot up the good old DOS and lunched Norton Commander and volla all of those files are deleted now!! ps. And now since these files are gone, Windows doesn't take like 10s to do some "Security Policies"
