GethN7 Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 There are unofficial versions of Windows Media Player 7.1 that run on 95 (the installer claims otherwise, but it works) http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MP7195NT.EXE Uses a modified EXE to install properly, more notes available here: http://erpman1.tripod.com/cmptips2.html
ppgrainbow Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the heads up. Otherwise, Windows Media Player 6.4 is the last version that officially works on Windows 95. Edited December 14, 2018 by ppgrainbow
broken120x120 Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) Windows Media Player 7.1 will also install on NT 4.0 as well as 95. One thing I noticed though is that it can give a "MonitorFromWindow" error but I don't remember the specifics since its been about a month. You can even install official patches and hot fixes that were released for it; they work just fine despite what MS would leave you to believe. It's likely that it was once officially supported for 95 and NT4 (maybe even 3.51) but was scrapped for whatever reason. Edited November 30, 2018 by broken120x120
LoneCrusader Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Actually IIRC, Media Player 7.0 will "officially" install on Windows 95, although with a nag message about being intended for newer systems. The official 7.1 installer refuses to install under 95 at all, hence the unofficial 7.1 package found at MDGx's site.
