XP64 and/or W2k3x64 Enterprise issues on a HP Proliant ml115

Hey nLiters!!!

First time ever that I wanted to actually alter an iso and what do I find!?

I feel very nLitened to have landed here.

What a piece of software!!!

Kudos and Thanks to the Author and contributors!!!

So I have this old Proliant ml115 system from back when and have dusted it off to play around with.

Its factory install was W2k3 SBE x86.

I have been trying to get XP 64 and/or w2k3x64 ent installed for some time with no luck.

It would just hang there at the "Setup is starting Windows..." screen

I finally figured out I need to add the required device drivers to the iso as I have no "A: drive:" to insert floppy disk into. (ahh, the good ol'days...)

That's how I landed here and found it quite simple to incorporate the ml115 specific drivers into the install. Specifically the nVidia kForce SATA drivers.

The install no longer hangs (good), but now after ~30 seconds BSOD (bad).

Its the IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL error on USBPORT.SYS.

So I did the research, found many years and annals of forum posts on this subject.

I eventually rounded up 4 different KBs:

KB914961,KB918005,KB925528,KB949764

I tried each individually and then all together and let nlite sort it out. Same results :(

So, what is USBPORT.SYS's problem and why is it harshing my mellow!?

Is there a fix out there that could work for me!?

If not, can I disable USB install?

I looked for the a USB host controller/etc in components/services to remove but could not identify anything..

Anyone? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Please find attached my system info and nLite info of ISOs I am working with. Thanks!

Cheers

I never heard of that bug with XP x64! OTOH, XP x32 had a bug with a GeForce 2 and Via KT133 where text mode XP setup will lock up at "Setup is starting Windows" and had to pop my Voodoo 3 back in to get past that! (That was back in 2001, LOL)

With a driver problem, the kernel should throw "0x000000D1".

"0x0000000A" is usually unstable CPU core/corruption.

(Usually means you need to turn down your core clock speed or raise Vcore)

So nLIters, not a problem/issue with nLite. But it helped me track down the problem.

I'll never post install drivers again!!!

Anyway in short:

Bios Setting->Advanced->USB Configuration->USB 2.0 Controller Mode=FullSpeed (12Mbps)

Default was HiSpeed (480 Mbps)
and apparently XP/w2k3 x64 do not have any way to use the HiSpeed??...
-
So reset CMOS and changed this setting, and only this setting and

BINGO

and guess what, it also fixed my POST problem automagically!!!??? Not sure why/what how??

One thing I think, but cant really verify is that the 7/2009 BMC and BIOS versions (Last official release for ml115)
I used to flash with maybe added this setting and/or changed the default value.

Curious... did you slip the SP2 for x64 into the ISO? (Yes, I said SP2...)

http://news.softpedia.com/news/64-Bit-Windows-XP-Service-Pack-3-73982.shtml

I have yet to try the x64 but it *appears* it has newer drivers, including that particular one.

The Executable SP2 only.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17791

The ISO, which contains both the above plus Updated "Support" folder/files.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6905

And next would be to get all the Post-SP2 Updates (they are still to be had).
