JorgeA Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 You're welcome! One of the things I like about it, is precisely that it doesn't use the Ribbon interface. --JorgeA
vinifera Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 well to be honest Ribbon (which is most stupid name i ever heard for UI element), well better call it what it isa Tabbed toolbar is better, less clunk and easy to quick-use some thingsbut they never tweaked itand there is no logic behind save and undo button being stiffed to 16x16 icon whene nobody will look for itsame goes for that stupid round button
CamTron Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I've been using SoftMaker Freeoffice for quite some time, and I really like it. I used to use OpenOffice a lot, but it was always a bit slow for me. This thing is small, fast, and starts in an instant. It's also available for Linux and Android. I don't think the ribbon interface is bad, but it's used in the wrong places. In something like a word processor, I like having as many of the commonly used commands as possible right in front of me. What I really think the ribbon should be used for is a replacement for the option dialogs and property sheets. I love having it in Windows 8's file manager, since the controls simply fit right there on the main window instead of the "Tools->Folder Options" modal dialog box that blocks my view.
JorgeA Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 My problem with the ribbon interface is that somehow it just doesn't match the way my mind works. Been using Office 2007 for longer now than I used Office 2000, and I still end up hunting for commands more often than I ever did with 2000. Just my two cents' worth. --JorgeA
vinifera Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 yeah they didn't categorise things right in itthey just did minimisation of thingswhile extra 2 or 3 tabs wouldn't kill anyone
