Not really sure how important this is to anyone ... I'm not really following Windows 10 ... I noticed today the new CCleaner had Windows 10 Preview Compatibility added.

I didn't know where to really post this ... I wanted it under the Windows 10 topic but move it if necessary.

v4.19.4867 (24 Oct 2014)

- Added Windows 10 Preview compatibility.

- Improved Opera 25 Cache cleaning.

- Improved exception handling and reporting architecture.

- Improved Auto-Update checking process.

What does CCleaner buy you that you can't do yourself?

I've always regarded "cleaner" tools as self-marketing snake oil.

"Clean" things are always better than (whatever the alternative is), right?

So therefore a product with a name that contains "cleaner" must be good.  And it must be necessary, or hundreds of millions of IQ 140 people worldwide (did you know that almost no one has a lower than average IQ?) wouldn't use it.  Those people are too smart to be duped by hype, right?

CCleaner does seem to be the most highly regarded of the lot of them.  If I ever find a need for it maybe I'll look it over.

  • Installed Windows 95 ONCE and used it for years.
  • Installed Windows 98 ONCE and used it for years.
  • Installed Windows 2000 ONCE and used it for years.
  • Installed XP x64 ONCE and used it for years.
  • Installed Vista x64 ONCE and used it for years (that machine JUST burned out with bad caps, after 8 years running 24/7).
  • Installed Windows 7 x64 ONCE and used it for years.
  • Installed Windows 8.1 x64 ONCE and used it for a year so far.

Tell me again what needs to be cleaner?

I hope I didn't come off as too critical.  Looking at my post it sounds that way.  I've run across too many systems that are "cleaned" and otherwise poorly taken care of into the point of being toast, so I'm sensitive.

I probably didn't understand your post ... there are also two paid versions now, I thought there only used to be one.

As I said earlier the "free version" is still around but maybe it's not as good as a few versions back. It doesn't seem to have very many "checkmarks" these days ... everything maybe been moved to a paid version, I don't know. It doesn't have "Complete Cleaning" checked for the free version. Not sure what is not "cleaned" and how important it might be.

I've always used it with Windows 98SE and XP.

Maybe anyone fooling around with Windows 10 will want to check it out.

Thanks Monroe, I do use ccleaner, and have for a looong time.

I did have automatic updates switched off, and hadn't bothered yet to check for a newer version.

It was misreporting the version number (saying 8.1 pro), and expected to see an update eventually.

Cheers.

older portable versions are here ... it usually takes this site a few days to post the latest portable version. Click on the "All versions" tab.
