External Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex in BUSY state. Can I try the 7200.11

I have a Seagate external HD, model FreeAgent GoFlex (STAA1000101) which is always in BUSY state, no matter if connected via USB, SATA, on Windows or Mac OS.

 

After reading a million pages, I found out about the solution for the 7200.11 drives, and am willing to try that.

 

Is it possible that this will work? If not, what other options do I have? The data isn't worth paying a recovery company, but worth anything I can do myself.
