Windows Update Downloader vs. Windows Updates

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what the advantage is in using the Windows Update Downloader as opposed to just plain ole Windows Updates?

WUD downloads ALL of them en-masse, just like UDC for XP (http://xdot.tk/) will.

Windows Updates will give you obsolete (superseded) Updates -and- is SLOOOOWWWWW!

The intent of WUD/UDC is to create/slipstream a fully-up-to-date Install CD/DVD. Windows Update is strictly to Update a Running OS.

(note I reference XP, but there are methods for other-than XP)

edit - You may ALSO note that you MAY have to repeatedly go to WU to get ALL of the Updates. Note ALSO that -some- folks prefer to NOT have AutoUpdates on and ALSO to be able to update an OS off-line (not connected to the web).
