Updates in Win 7

I checked for Win updates for my laptop running Win 7 prof and IE 11. Ten possible updates were shown, 8 of which, however, were indicated for Win XP and some kind of server. I unchecked these 8 and downloaded the remaining 2. I then opened Win Update in my desktop running Win XP Prof and IE 8.0 to be advised that the relevant website was not available as it had not been for a not insignificant time already. I have a serious problem comprehending the underlying rationale of this situation concerning updates for Win 7 and Win XP, respectively, and shall appreciate any assistance/explanation and especially, updating XP. Thank you

None of the ten updates presented were for both Win 7 and Win XP. Two were for Win 7 and eight for Win XP and, if my memeory is correct, for server 2003

I just belatedly realize that I had totally misread the descriptions of the available update and I can now only offer my sincere apologies for any problem caused.

since you didn't write which ones are for both

we can only guess they can be or .net frameworks or visual c++ redist packages or some other stuff
