TmEE Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Such hangups make me think of bad sectors on the HDD. Install trial of HDD Sentinel and see if it tells you anything interesting. In DOS you can do SCANDISK C: /AUTOFIX /SURFACE (be prepared to many hours of "downtime")
ROTS Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 The first thing I would do, Is try and run a clean installation of windows 98, without anything running. Then one by one install something else new, until the problem starts to occur. However if your systemhas been tweaked and twacked I do not know if that is possible.Below are my ideas on the subject of hang ups.Opera sounds strange, because the version I was using was zooming really fast. However I was usingan outdated version. I would get hang ups on Seakmonkey an K-melon alot more, then Opera.Your direct X also could use a little more upgrading. Without certain installs of direct x, things wouldmove slower.I switched out my memory, and the computer ran faster, ever since.Another thing could be overheating, issues that damages the board, overtime. You could also have something running in the background that is making everything else run slower.Does the computer ever freezes from time to time? to the point where you might have control, but you are unable to see what you are doing? That issue was my graphics card, that was physicallydamaged. In my case, it would freeze and either reslove itself or not.
