odysseus0303 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hello,im new to here but since u guys use the serial interface of a seagate hdd to repair it i hope someone can help me.i have a Seagate ST 3500312CS "Pipeline HD .2 " that is locked with an unknown ATA Password, and the master password was changed too.The drive was installed in a DVR (digital video recorder) , it is a 500GB 1-platter one (must be silimar to Seagate 7200.12 ?. it is a F3 architcecture)i was inspired by this topic on another forum, but obviously the things mentioned there arent very beginner-friendly.http://forum.hddguru.com/seagate-st3500312cs-equiv-t20805.htmlso i now have a working serial connection to my HDD and basic commands (spin up and down ) tested working.now can anybody help me how i get rid of the ATA password or how i can read it as in the topic described ?i dont care of loosing data, theres just video recordings on it.
jaclaz Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 i was inspired by this topic on another forum, but obviously the things mentioned there arent very beginner-friendly.http://forum.hddguru.com/seagate-st3500312cs-equiv-t20805.htmlNot even "slightly-more-advanced-user" friendly (if I can be .consodered in this category)What is written there is just "RTFM"!What may be useful could be this list of commands:http://files.hddguru.com/download/Datasheets/Seagate/Seagate%20Diagnostic%20RS-232%20Port/seagate diagnostic command.rar Seagate terminal command - unknown sourceAnd the actual manual (I presume this one is the one for your disk, but as always check and double check):http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/ce/Pipeline%2520HD%2520Series/100529372g.pdfI have NO idea if what you wish to do is possible at all and/or if the aboive given files contain enough data to perform it.Would not using hdparm work on that disk? Today's thread with some references:jaclaz

odysseus0303 Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 thats the problem the drive is too new to be supported .even hddunlock.com cant do it because of unsupported firmware.so i really need to do it with the serial connection and the command line.
