osRe Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Does anyone know of a DS splitter for AMR, or a Winamp decoder plugin (without dependencies)? I only found the Monogram AMR splitter which doesn't run on 9x (though maybe would work if compiled w/o NT dependencies).
loblo Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 The Monogram AMR splitter/decoder runs fine if KernelEx is installed. Haali splitter and FFDShow for decoding should also do. Other than that VLC, MPlayer and KMPlayer for example play amr files fine with their internal filters.
osRe Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Can KernelEx be used simply by dropping the DLL into the same directory as the DS filter? What does Haali's splitter do in this regard? It doesn't seem to split AMR, and surely it's not a decoder?
loblo Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Can KernelEx be used simply by dropping the DLL into the same directory as the DS filter?Of course not. What does Haali's splitter do in this regard? It doesn't seem to split AMR, and surely it's not a decoder? As its name suggests the Haali splitter splits media streams (including amr) and doesn't decode them that's why I mentioned it in conjunction with FFDShow which decodes amr. And if you want to play amr in Winamp you either get one of the DirectShow solutions to work and use the DirectShow input plugin for them or you get the FFSox input plugin and replace the dlls in its subfolders by those of the same name found in the latest MPlayerWW on sourceforge but you'll have no seeking unlike with the DS input plug. (Any of that may require to have KernelEx installed btw)
osRe Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the info. What does KernelEx do that requires installation? I was hoping to avoid system-wide changes.I know what Haali Media Splitter does. But it doesn't seem to split AMR for me, nor is it mentioned as a feature. What version do you use that splits AMR? Do you need to enable it specifically? If it works then that's the solution, with the decoding handled by ffdshow. Edited February 11, 2012 by shae
loblo Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 You're right about Haali, it doesn't split amr files, I just tested it now for that, for some reason I assumed it did, sorry about that. Also, the FFSox input plugin for winamp I mentioned, seems only to work with version 5, not 2.And don't worry about installing KernelEx, it's small, stable, unintrusive and allows you to run lots of stuff you can't normally run.
