using PerceivedType & SystemFileAssociations

Greetings.

I recently decided to start using the "text" PerceivedType,

so I could set the contextmenu in one place under SystemFileAssociations.

I found out that XP will not treat .m3u nor .reg files as "text".

XP will only treat m3u files as "audio".

I guess there is something somewhere in the registry controlling that.

I would like to know how to have XP implement any any PerceivedType entries I might make.

Aren't users supposed to be able to assign any PercievedType option they want?

Any helpful replies/insights appeciated.

.reg may be hard coded, as similar issues have been found here. However, M3U files are not natively known to XP, but only get their initial association once a program that uses that type of file (ie Winamp) is installed. So it may be possible to add M3U to PerceivedType=text.

It is also possible that .reg uses a GUID as its reference, but that's just a guess.

As far as I remember, at least on XP, "PerceivedType" is used as a helper to MIME types, meaning it's primarily meant to be used in IE environment. For normal use in Windows Explorer, opening a file by extension, won't work every time, depending on various restrictions on things like MIME sniffing and other Feature controls on the computer in question.
