joe43wv
I'm trying to upgrade a system from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. The problem I 'm having is while trying to run the upgrade it says that it find find information for the hard drive or DVD-RW that I must contact the manufacturer for information. I looked under the system properties and it showed both devices as unknown devices. I've tried uninstalling the devices to see if windows would reinstall the devices on reboot, but I get the same error. Any ideas?
MagicAndre1981
SATA or IDE DVD drive? Which chipset do you use? Does Windows know the chipset and provide drivers?
joe43wv
Both the hard drive and DVD drive are SATA. Device Manager gives the model number of the device and reconizes it, they just put both in an unkown category. I don't have the system in front of me. I'll take a look and see what the chipset holds.
Tripredacus
Do you have Vista or Win7 on the PC right now?
joe43wv
I FINALLY got it to work last night. While running the Windows 7 upgrade CD I had the CD download installer updates and everything loaded just fine. I haven't messed with it today since the install last night but I think it may be all good to go.
