xmf Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) There is a folder that I use so often that I've created a shortcut to it in my start menu. However, this folder is deleted from time to time (out of necessity), and when it's gone, if I click the shortcut link, I get redirected to another folder, and this redirect becomes permanent (unless I go in and alter the shortcut properties). What I can't figure out is that I have the same setup on another xp system (pro) and this auto-redirect behavior doesn't occur when the deleted folder cannot be found.I realize this situation could seem ridiculous and be dissected in a number of ways, but I'd prefer if it was not. This is what I'm dealing with and I'm simply looking to find out if I can avoid this redirecting behavior in my xp home install (like my Xp pro install does). Thanks Edited June 28, 2011 by xmf
xmf Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Thanks, but that didn't work on my home sp3 install.
allen2 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) Did you restarted the computer after applying those settings ?If you did and it still doesn't work then try the alternate method from MS using gpedit.msc (a reboot is needed to apply the setting). Edited June 28, 2011 by allen2
xmf Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Yes, the computer was restarted but no luck. Is it possible to use GPE with XP Home? Edited July 1, 2011 by xmf
submix8c Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Since you have XP Pro also, check this topic out. So, yes it's possible to "transplant" gpedit from Pro to Home edition.

So, yes it's possible to "transplant" gpedit from Pro to Home edition.gpedit "transplanted", but the re-direct is still enabled even with the GP fix. This is very strange. Edited July 3, 2011 by xmf
