"Tweaks" Explinations

The tweaks portion of the wizard is a bit confusing for me. I'm confused how to manipulate the tick boxes. It has been a while since I've looked at the page, but as i recall there are tick boxes on each item. Some of then are unclear whether I'm enabling or disabling them. Can someone clear this up for me? If you could, please use a JPG or something to demonstrate.
