SoundMAX problems with hl.exe

Afternoon, well I've suffered enough from this problem, and was hoping you guys could help me.

First of all my sound card is "SoundMAX HD Audio", I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32bit.

Well the problem is happening each time I'm launching hl.exe (Counter-Strke, etc).

When I'm doing so, my recording control sort of disables itself, when I open the Audio Settings again, switch to Recording Control nothing is checked, although I have there "Stereo Mix", "Microphone" (which is the front entrance) and "Line-in" (which is the back entrance - where my headphones are plugged in).

Each time I launch Counter-Strike via steam the microphone (Line-in entrance) disables itself, I have to minimize and enable it again.

Which annoys me so much, sometimes I forget to do so and find myself talking to myself for the whole game without realizing that nobody hears me.

I'd appreciate your help, looking forward to hearing from you guys at your earliest convenience.

I'm sorry to say that I have no solution for this but I would blame the game for it.

Moving this topic to the XP section as it's not a hardware fault.

What version of Half-Life did you install? I know the original version, like the GoTY 4 pack and earlier versions did not work properly in XP. Is yours this version or older, or is it a more recent one or from Steam?
